HOW TO MAKE YOUR SIXTH FORM TEACHING OUTSTANDING
All post-16 providers want their learners to have the best experience possible. Within the context of the new Ofsted framework for evaluating Sixth Forms, this course explores those features of teaching and learning which constitute an outstanding lesson.
Course Objectives
At the end of the event participants will:
- Understand the Ofsted criteria for an outstanding lesson
- Understand the importance of assessment to support learning
- Be able to help their colleagues improve the quality of their post-16 teaching through developing a range of appropriate teaching styles
- Be confident in observing and recording good practice
Delegates will receive a folder with a summary of each session, materials for use in your school and copies of OHTs used on the day.
Programme for the day
The course is aimed at Heads of Sixth Form; senior staff with post-16 responsibility and advanced level teachers.
- Grade 1 lessons: exploring the Ofsted criteria
- The central role of assessment to support learning
- How to plan lessons effectively
- Using engaging starter activities
- Strategies/approaches to active learning and group work
- Questioning techniques
- Making the most of plenaries
The day will be underpinned by practical activities including the viewing and assessing of pre-recorded lessons.
Course Fee
The fee for each course is £215 per delegate (including lunch and refreshments) and available on a first come, first served basis.
